Katara and Toph get into a heated argument, she calls the earth bender out on her unhelpful attitude. Aang realizes the reason why they are being followed by the crown princess and her friends is because of Appa's shedding. Aang and his friends finally clean Appa up and he tries to create a fake decoy trail with the fur to trick Azula and her friends.

Aang is finally cornered by the princess, she reveals that she is the younger S2, Ep9. Aang begins to learn earthbending from Toph; Uncle Iroh resumes teaching Zuko firebending to better prepare him for facing Azula, and reveals a new technique he learned from watching waterbenders.

S2, Ep When he learns that there is a lost Library with all the knowledge in the world, Sokka convinces the others to seek it out in hopes of finding a weakness of the Fire Nation. Anime, by and large, have overarching storylines that actually TELL a story, deep, richly developed characters, and enough hinted-at history beyond what is actually said to trigger rampant speculation amongst the viewers.

Avatar has elements of both, but is far enough away from cartoons that it can be classified 'anime' as I define the word. It has much of the cartoonish humor that american works usually contain, but as the story progresses the subject matter becomes more serious, while still mixing in enough comedy at strategic moments usually by way of Momo , that more sensitive viewers aren't turned off to the show. The characters are well-rounded enough to qualify, Sokka's growth from sexist, overconfident, inept wannabe to honorable, capable Water Tribe warrior in particular is very engrossing even if the most drastic changes occur in the first four episodes.
